What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a clear alternative to traditional braces. Invisalign clear retainers are nearly invisible and are removable, creating a more comfortable treatment process. Invisalign treatment uses a series of custom aligners that will gradually move your teeth without metal brackets or wires and less time spent at the dentist.
How does it work?
Invisalign clear aligners are a modern straightening technology that are made of smooth and comfortable plastics that wear completely over your teeth with minimal visibility. Wearing the aligners as directed for approximately 22 hours a day will gently shift your teeth into the desired place as treatment planned by you and the Dentist. Aligners can be removed at any time to eat, drink, brush and floss, making it easier to keep your mouth clean and healthy throughout your treatment. After you begin Invisalign, the dentist will provide you with a number of aligners to take home that will be changed every 1-2 weeks with progress visits every 6-8 weeks. The average treatment time is about 1 year but will vary depending on the specific treatment you require.
- No wires or metal brackets
- Able to remove aligners to eat and drink
- Can floss and brush as normal
- Decrease issues with discomfort
Am I a candidate?
Invisalign successfully treats patients with minor, moderate and severe alignment conditions. Common issues such as crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, deep bite and open bite can all be corrected with Invisalign technology. Compliance is mandatory for effective treatment. Patients are expected to have worn the aligners for 20 to 22 hours in a 24-hour period.
After creating a treatment plan with the Dentist, orthodontic records including impressions and photos will be taken and sent away to the Invisalign lab to create your Invisalign case. Next, a virtual video will be created by Invisalign and emailed to you displaying the changes and end result of your treatment. Once approved by you, your treatment will begin within 2 weeks and you are on your way to the smile you’ve always wanted.
If you think that Invisalign is the right option for you or your child, please call our office to schedule a consultation to discuss your treatment options.
